Inside Sales Manager-Position Description

Summary:

The position reports directly to the General Manager of the branch. This role is responsible for leading a team of Inside Sales Representatives to deliver consistent growth in branch revenue and profitability.

The focus and scope of this job is to ensure that the branch.

  • Is fully engaged in the development and execution of comprehensive sales plans.
  • The Inside Sales Manager’s should be focused on driving the company’s growth strategy.
  • Develops, implements, and executes sound strategies and tactical plans to improve the operational and financial performance of the sales team; and
  • Achieves revenue results that align with the company’s strategic goals.
  • Demonstrates a safety-first culture – meeting or exceeding improvement targets.

Personal initiative, coupled with a sense of competitive drive, and the ability to stay focused on results despite changing conditions, is the key to achieving the performance objectives of this job. Because the business environment changes rapidly, the work involves innovation and creativity in planning and problem solving. Sound decision-making is required to implement practical, timely solutions.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Results Management

  • Consistently delivers insides sales results.
  • Maximizes shipping profit margins. Demonstrates high technical proficiency as a manager through effective planning and execution.
  • Drives the Company strategic initiatives within the Inside Sales organization (Huttig-Grip and Repair & Remodel).

Customer Service

  • Ensures all communication with customers is executed at a pace and quality exceeds market and customer expectations.
  • Manages Corporate Customer Service Report (CSI) and resolves any credits.
  • Ensures all customer returns for the branch are handled promptly.

Order Management

  • Monitors the accuracy of the Rules-Based Configurator (RBC) in pulling correct items and promptly communicates any issues to management and/or the RBC Team.
  • Ensures all orders and quotes are entered same day.
  • Ensures the quality of sales orders and quotations. 
  • Establishes and manages to productivity and quality metrics for Order Entry and quotations.

Sales Management

  • Directs proactive selling efforts by Inside Sales associates.
  • Demonstrates a deep knowledge of branch customers, their business, requirements and preferences.
  • Ensures all Inside Sales associates are highly capable in product knowledge, consultative selling technique and sales management tools.
  • Consistently coaches in the moment providing positive feedback and corrective actions to branch associates.
  • Fosters open and honest communication.
  • Manages performance aggressively - implementing Corrective Action Plans when coaching fails).
  • Collects and reports real-time market intelligence and pricing.
  • Ensures accurate pricing information in the SXE system.
  • Communicates effectively with the Production Department in order to manage production capacity and order prioritization.
  • Provides proactive and timely communication to the Product Management department regarding inventory issues, special orders, etc.
  • Coordinates all SXE reports related to branch Inside Sales.
  • Ensures all Inside Sales associates are capable on products knowledge, selling techniques and sales management tools.
  • Assists Corporate Marketing by collecting customer data for the Customer Connection, and other programs.

People Management

  • Builds a customer-focused Inside Sales team and culture (hires, trains, empowers and develops associates).
  • Consistently coaches in the moment providing positive feedback and corrective actions to associates.
  • Manages performance aggressively - implementing Corrective Action Plans when coaching fails.

  • Works with a sense of urgency for goal achievement.
  • Leads in fast-paced environment.
  • Manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • This position requires approximately less than 5 travel.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of Inside Sales Representatives.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of associates.
  • Ensure the safety of all employees through diligent execution of the company’s safety program. Ensure all supervisory responsibilities are carried out in accordance with corporate policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Sales experience in the millwork and building materials industry is highly desirable. Prior experience in successfully leading a team preferred.

Language Skills

Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Additionally, must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or members of the business community. As required, this person will make presentations to the Board of Directors, Senior Leadership Team, and public groups.

Other Skills/Certification Experience in managerial assignments in the distribution industry are desirable. Proficient in Microsoft Office – particularly Word and Excel.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as discounts, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. The ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
